Lisa B.
Private tutor in Norlina, NC
Education
NCSU: BA English (with high school teaching certification); graduated magna cum laude, 1988.
Experience
Taught middle school language arts for a dozen years in a Wake County charter school; was a National Board Certified Professional Teacher (expired December 31, 2013). I left the classroom in June of 2012 in order to pursue other opportunities. During my teaching career, I also taught basic math and reading skills.I am most confident in tutoring language arts/English (literature, writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary and spelling). I am still a teacher at heart: I love exploring new ideas and developing new skills with students; I always believe in each student's potential for academic success. Most often, a student's previous academic failures are the result of unsuccessful learning resulting from external factors. My role as a tutor is to help to identify the barriers to learning and then work with the student to remove those. A student's success as a learner is the most important objective; his/her beliefs about his/her ability to learn and to be successful must be transformed into positive ones.
